5 ദശലക്ഷം ഹെക്ടർ ഭൂമിയാണ് ഓസ്‌ട്രേലിയയിലെ കാട്ടുതീയെ തുടർന്ന് കത്തി നശിച്ചത്. ഏകദേശം 50 കോടിയോളം ജീവജാലങ്ങളാണ് ഇതുവരെ വെന്തുമരിച്ചത്. ഓസ്ട്രേലിയയിൽ ഈ വർഷം ഏറ്റവും ചൂടേറിയതും വരണ്ടതുമായ കാലാവസ്ഥയാണ് അനുഭവപ്പെട്ടത്, കഴിഞ്ഞ മാസം താപനില 50 ഡിഗ്രി സെൽഷ്യസിൽ എത്തിയിരുന്നു.
